Great Buddha of Kamakura Japan
The Great Buddha of Kamakura, Kamakura Daibutsu, on a gradually clearing summer day in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. This enormous 11.4 meter tall bronze statue of Amida Buddha was originally cast in 1252 and stands in the open here on the grounds of Kotoku-in Temple. Respectful visitors have left apples out in front of the Buddha as an offering while clouds are breaking triumphantly behind him, reminiscent of the way that light is often shone extending from around a Buddha in many traditional statues.
