Icebergs on Diamond Beach Iceland
A unique variety of iceberg chunks in different stages and sizes are found here, carried ashore by the surf on the black sand beach Breidamerkursandur (aka Diamond Beach) in southeast Iceland...
These icebergs have been through a lot, having been recently ejected from the nearby Vatnajokull Glacier into Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon and then finally being released to the sea after melting to a size small enough to exit the lagoon... The large blue one would have recently washed ashore, while the smaller, glassy ones are near-finished with their on-shore melting process... This is a long exposure photograph taken at a slower shutter speed on a tripod to capture the wave action behind the ice.
