Birch Tree Among the Moss in Iceland
A miniature birch tree grows out from among a thick, green covering of vibrant moss at Laki, or Lakagigar, in southern Iceland. Here, an 18th century volcanic eruption covered the landscape in hot lava, which then cooled into the rolling hills of black lava rock. Moss began to grow, which has today become a bright green blanket, dotted with small trees throughout it. This autumnal scene is one of many I am proud to have captured from this beautiful area, where life triumphs.
